Listen to it:

This ronroco by Roberto Juri, from Aiquile, Bolivia, is a truly unique and extraordinary instrument.

If we had to describe it in a single word, that word would be generous.

Not only because of its dimensions, particularly those of its body, measuring 23.5 × 32 × 11 cm, which create an exceptionally large resonating chamber and provide unprecedented support for the lower notes. But also, and above all, because of its long-lasting, deep yet remarkably well-defined sound, offering impressive sustain without losing detail in the midrange.

Despite its 45 cm scale length, the instrument retains a pleasing brightness in the higher strings, without upsetting the overall balance of its tonal spectrum.

This is the ronroco for those who love Gustavo Santaolalla’s music, or are looking for an instrument capable of expressing music that connects with deeper states of being. Its sound is immersive and magnetic.

The instrument is carved from a single piece of Tarara Amarilla wood, and features the classic, understated design of an Aiquileño charango by master luthier Roberto Juri.

Tarara (Centrolobium microchaete) is an excellent tonewood, unfortunately used very rarely in instrument making. Native to the Chiquitania region of Bolivia, it features beautiful amber hues that gradually shift towards pale straw tones. Its main advantage lies in its combination of hardness and lightness, placing it just below naranjillo in terms of density, while being considerably less hygroscopic.

This means that, over time, it absorbs less moisture and offers significantly greater dimensional stability.
