Listen to this instrument:

The elegance of a classic. Charango.it is proud to present a true rarity. The Peruvian charango is a traditional instrument from Ayacucho, and it differs significantly in shape, construction, and sound from the more common Bolivian, Argentinian, or Chilean charango.

Its construction technique is closer to that of a guitar: the instrument is laminated and shaped using a mold inspired by the baroque guitar, resulting in a unique structural and acoustic character. While some variants feature fewer than 10 strings or single courses, this model has a full traditional string setup.

This instrument is built by Lima-based luthier Dany Sanchez, using walnut body, jacaranda fingerboard, and Canadian cedar soundboard. The scale length is 37 cm.

The sound of the Peruvian charango is completely distinct from its Bolivian counterpart: it has a softer attack and a warmer, rounder tone, making it ideal for the punteo and tremolo techniques typical of Ayacucho’s musical tradition. It produces bright tones without harshness and offers remarkable volume.

Finding a high-quality Peruvian charango like this has been extremely difficult. Until now.
